Indian Ceremony at Red Butte Gardens | Kavitha & Fred

Monday, July 19th, 2010

indian wedding in utah THUMB Indian Ceremony at Red Butte Gardens | Kavitha & Fred Following up on Friday’s post of Groomals, we have Kavitha & Fred’s gorgeous Indian ceremony in the fragrance garden of Red Butte Garden.

Indian ceremonies are known for a few things: their duration (though this one was highly modified to just a couple of hours); their amazing colors; their complex symbolism; and their sense of fun and celebration! Sharp-eyed readers may have noted that our groom Fred’s ancestors probably hailed from somewhere a bit further east than India, and so it was great fun to watch someone be at the center of all this pageantry without really knowing what was going on.

Fred weathered it like a champ!

Rose Sachs Gardens | Mandy and Pete

salt lake city photographer Rose Sachs Gardens | Mandy and Pete

Warm weather, sunshine and beautiful surroundings made for a lovely wedding day for Mandy and Pete. The couple chose Rose Sachs Gardens, located in Parley’s Canyon, as the setting for their big day.

It was a great day for all. In fact, the bridal party and guests got an extra hour of dancing when the bus that was scheduled to drive everyone down the canyon got stuck. While waiting for a truck to pull the bus free, everybody danced and partied – truly a fun night despite a stuck bus.

Thanks Pete and Mandy, it was fun!

Cucina Nassi Wedding | Julianne + Weston | ZumaPhoto

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

100204L-W-0413.jpg This wedding’s blog post is way over due. I’m sorry to everybody who has anxiously been waiting to see the reception of Julianne and Weston. They were married at the Salt Lake Temple and held their wedding reception at Cucina Nassi, the new Italian style banquet hall run by Walter Nassi, operator of Cucina Toscana in downtown Salt Lake City. It is such a luxurious hall without being over the top or cheesy. Colby from C3 design and Sean from Sax Romney floral design created an amazing setting for Julianne and Weston to enjoy a hundred different appetizers, what seemed to be a 20 course sit down dinner, and a decadent dessert buffet. It was a beautiful relaxing evening with Julianne and Weston’s friends, family and food… what more could you ask for? Thank you Julianne and Weston for inviting me to share your special wedding day. I had so much fun with you two on the engagement and bridal sessions and your wedding day was just glorious. L, Logan

salt-lake-city-temple-wedding-photography-W-0334.jpgThese two lovebirds were married back in February. We were crossing our fingers for a snowstorm on her wedding day (Julianne really wanted snow) but there was no snow around. Still, it was a gorgeous day for a winter wedding. And the lovely weather allowed us to spend more time outside around temple square. Here are some of my favorites from the first half of their day. Stay tuned for the the images from their reception!

In fact they met while Russ was representing the labor union…across the negotiating table from each other. I was going to say something here about politics making for strange bed-fellows but I totally restrained myself. Whew, that was close!

So where do two Phoenix-based jet-setters that get free air-fare to anywhere in the world decide to have their wedding?

Beautiful Park City, of course!

Ryan and I had the privilege of shooting this great couple a few weeks ago. Here’s part 1 – part 2 on Saturday.

I spent last weekend at The Canyons playing and having fun. It reminded me there’s year-round fun to be had at this Park City ski resort.

These are a few photos from Jessica and Kurt’s outdoor summer wedding. Guests were treated to breathtaking gondola ride up the mountain to the Red Pine Lodge for the wedding and reception. After The Joe Muscolino Band provided music for dancing that lasted all night!

Summer will be here soon, bring-on the outdoor weddings!

Ultimate Utah Wedding | The Tower at Rice Eccles | Nick + Whitnee

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

021110L-W-0755.jpgThe Wedding Reception for Nick and Whitnee’s Ultimate Utah Wedding was just spectacular. All of the generous vendors who came together for this event gave 110%. As the sun set on the city, the view of downtown Salt Lake and the Great Salt Lake was a beautiful treat for Nick and Whitnee’s guests to take in. The Tower is one of the only places in the Salt Lake Valley where such a view can be enjoyed. Guests were served a number of mouth watering hors d’oeuvres, delightful gelato, and refreshing signature mocktails, compliments of Culinary Crafts. Scene Makers set the stage with an illuminated dance floor, red, black and white lounge furniture and gorgeous seasonal red floral designs. I loved the wintery trees and white floral balls dangling from the backdrop behind the head table. Nick and Whitnee’s red, black and white wedding cake was provided by Ambrosia. Durvin from Laughing Gravy kept the evening rolling from the reception line into the traditions of cake cutting, first dance, and the bouquet and garter toss. The party was really going when Swoop, the University of Utah Mascott dropped by for a little performance. Nick and Whitnee were surrounded by friends and family as they danced into the night. When it came time for the two to depart, they were driven away into the night in a handsome vintage Rolls Royce provided by Something Vintage, Something Blue.

Ryan and I had so much fun working with Nick and Whitnee. We would like to thank them and all of the people who voted for ZumaPhoto to be part of their Ultimate Utah Wedding. Nick and Whitnee, you two are Rock Stars!

Alyson and Cole | Salt Lake LDS Temple Wedding

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

thumb.jpg Fun, laughter and plenty of smiling! There was all of that and more on Alyson and Cole’s wedding day. The fun-loving couple was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. From there they had a ring-ceremony and a reception at a relative’s house, where the fun and good-times continued throughout the day. Alyson, the radiant bride, had a smile so contagious it inspired everyone to smile too!

Have fun, smile and enjoy your day, that’s what I say!

Ultimate Utah Wedding | Salt Lake City Temple | Nick + Whitnee

Friday, March 5th, 2010

salt-lake-temple-wedding-ultimate-utah-wedding--W-0195biga.jpgNick and Whitnee, the couple chosen for the Ultimate Utah Wedding giveaway are finally married! It was a gorgeous February day with the warm sun peeking through the cool clouds. Nick and Whitnee were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple surrounded by family and loved ones. The couple was just glowing as they exited the temple to be greeted by everyone who came down for the ceremony. After taking the standard family and group portraits on the stairs of the temple, Ryan and I were able to take the two around the temple grounds for some personal time and some personal photos. They were so excited to be married, they couldn’t stop looking at each other. Just so, so, so cute! Whitnee’s exquisite gown is a Maggie Soterro original and her lovely boquet was created by Scene Makers. Nick’s Tux comes from Jim’s Formal Wear. When we were finished with photos, Nick and Whitnee were whisked away in a vintage Rolls Royce provided by Something Vintage Something Blue.

Here are the images from the first half of the day at the Temple. Check back soon for the reception images at The Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah.

Sundance Winter Wedding Album | McCall & Ryan

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

sundance_wedding_thumb.jpg Well since we’re stuck here in winter for a few more weeks we might as well celebrate it. I can’t think of a better way than to share this gorgeous album from McCall & Ryan’s December sealing the Salt Lake Temple that culminated in a stunning winter reception at Sundance Resort!

McCall had a lot of images to pare it down from: we did an engagement session, a bridal AND groomal session, the temple sealing and the reception. The only thing to do was go BIG! So here we have a 12×16 inch, 100-side beauty dolled up in McCall’s own inspired combination of gold ostrich and copper metallic leathers. As beautiful as it looks here, this album really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Its positively decadent! :D

La Caille Wedding Album | Maggie & Ben | ZumaPhoto

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

la_caille_wedding_album_utah_001.jpg Its been a while since we shared an album, but you can expect many more coming up because we produced more albums in this past year than we ever have before! Today’s star is this gorgeous 100-side, copper metallic leather and pink suede jaw-dropper that we produced for Maggie & Ben.

Maggie & Ben were married one beautiful sunny June day at the world famous La Caille, and we took a little extra time in designing the album to make sure that it really captured the love and emotion that were palpable to everyone there.

Please to enjoy!

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

johnson_mill_thumb.jpg We are again honored to have a six-page feature in the hot-off-the-presses 2010 edition of Utah Bride & Groom Magazine !

This time around its Kim and Sean’s spectacular Fourth o’ July a-hitchin’ at Johnson Mill. Kym wore an Atelier Aimee gown from Alta Moda Bridal with a very cool handmade purse by Leigh-Ann Kline. Flowers were by Basket of Gold, music was by Kim’s son Adrian’s band (they rocked it), and the fireworks were provided courtesy of the Heber City Chamber of Commerce (though admittedly they probably had another occasion in mind…).

Go get your copy of Utah Bride & Groom, wherever better local bridal magazines are sold.  ;)

thumb Moab Wedding | Castle Creek Winery | Red Cliffs Lodge Since it’s freezing cold and winter, I thought I’d revisit summer.

What says summer better than a wedding at a Moab winery? Marshall and Ashley had the perfect weather for an amazing wedding at Red Cliffs Resort Winery. The resort is located on the banks of the Colorado River surrounded by red rock cliffs – truly spectacular.

Location aside, Marshall and Ashley were great fun and I’m happy I was able to photograph their big day.

They’ve been married for years, but decided to re-new their wedding vows and involve their children. A highlight of the day was the “Sand Ceremony,” where each of them added a container of sand into a decorative piece symbolizing their family as one. Truly a day focused on family and love.

I could go on about this wedding, but I’ll let the photos speak instead…

In addition to meeting great people, it’s fun to go exploring and discover new places to take photographs. I’m lucky, I get to be with happy people on their wedding day, and explore beautiful Utah.

I don’t think I’ve ever been inundated with so many questions about when a wedding post would going up as I have about Allison & Drew’s! Ever since I posted their engagement session (with special guest, Gracie), I’ve been getting it at every turn – email, phone calls, Facebook, carrier pigeon – all wanting to know when we might see this amazing couple’s wedding day. Well, never let it be said that I don’t cave into peer pressure. Be warned though – this is easily the longest post we’ve ever done (you might want to grab a snack). So without further ado I give you Allison & Drew (and yes, Gracie) at The Canyon Resort’s mountain-top Red Pine Lodge…one of my favorite places to shoot!

The day was gorgeous despite a huge rainstorm that rumbled through for a couple hours. The love of friends and family was way too strong to let the rain clouds dampen the day. Monday, September 28th, 2009

thumb.jpgEarly in my photography career, I spent countless hours in the black and white darkroom at The Salt Lake Tribune. I learned from veteran photojournalists who spent decades mastering printing techniques and producing works of art on a daily basis.

I consider myself fortunate, the darkroom was a great place to learn photography. Computers, jpegs and megapixels are amazing, but somedays I miss the darkroom.

These images from Bill and Megan’s wedding at Empire Lodge are digital photos made B+W in photoshop. I only use photoshop techniques that could be reproduced in a darkroom.

Andy and Lindsay’s Park City Wedding also contained the energy of “FUN.” First, the ceremony was held at The Colby School in Park City, Ut. From there, we went to the White Barn for portraits. Friends and family rode bikes as Andy and Lindsay rode in a rickshaw along Highway 224 as motorists honked and cheered the newlyweds. After their reception was held at the Legacy Lodge where the fun continued.

Tara & Jared’s Wedding La Caille | ZumaPhoto

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Huntsman09_359b.jpgLa Caille is such a beautiful location for a wedding celebration and I think it fit Tara and Jared’s style perfectly. The storm continued the rest of the day but again, the clouds and rain seemed to dissipate just long enough for us to get some great shots. The pavillion at La Caille is another great option for an indoor wedding with an outdoor feel. It really brings the outdoors – in.

Tara and Jared had such wonderful attitudes about the weather. I love it when couple just go with the flow. We can’t change the weather so we may as well accept it and work with it. This goes for the overall wedding day and in my case for the photography. I really try to encourage couples to not be afraid of the rain. It makes everything wet and shiny and glowy and gorgeous! If we can all brave the weather, I promise the photos will be worth it! We actually only had a few drops fall on us during our time at the temple and at la caille, but they were braving it with the chance that the weather could get worse.

Erika & Chris – Ruth’s Diner Wedding | ZumaPhoto

Friday, August 28th, 2009

18.jpg Often times, my photographer friends and I will talk and rave about all the great places we go and the amazing people we photograph. They’ll talk of a wedding in an Italian Villa, or a castle wedding in Scotland, but I have them all beat! A few miles up Emigration Canyon is the legendary Ruth’s Diner , the location where Chris and Erika were married. As far as I know, this was the first wedding there, and likely the only wedding at the historic diner.  Great location aside… the best part of my “job” (I use that word loosely since what I do is fun) is the people I meet. All the couples I photograph and I become friends, but, I truly consider Chris and Erika my new good friends.

So, with that said, head up the canyon to Ruth’s Diner for some great food and say hello to Chris and Erika, they’ll likely be there since it’s the family restaurant. And tell them Ryan sent you. And check out the amazing flowers WITH peacock feathers, no less, from the phenomenal Every Blooming Thing.

Its rare then that I hear of a ceremony in a location that is entirely new to me, and that’s why I was so intrigued when Julia and Dan told me that they were getting married at the Storm Mountain natural amphitheater. Storm Mountain is located about 2 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon (home to the Brighton and Solitude ski resorts).
