WPPI ‘Accolade of Excellence’ Prints | Salt Lake City Photographer

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

wppi_accolades_of_excellence002.jpgJust a quick little brag that I forgot to mention…

Every spring, tens of thousands of wedding and portrait photographers from around the world descend upon Las Vegas for the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International convention. One of the highlights is the 16×20 print competition. The competition is notorious for the exacting standards and crazy attention to detail of the judges, for the world-class quality of the entries, and for the sheer number of entries from around the world. Let’s just say this particular competition has some street cred.

I am honored to be able to share with you that two of my prints attained an Accolade of Excellence award this year and I am nothing short of humbled when I look around at the company I am in.

f-stop-beyond-radio.jpgA couple of weeks ago I was interviewed, along with my lovely and talented wife Pepper, for F-Stop Beyond Radio – Ron Dawson’s interview series ‘for the visually inspired’. We are honored to be included among the ranks of some pretty major-league company. I don’t think we talked about photography itself even once, but we had some fun. Hopefully its worth a listen:

Thanks to Ron for chasing us down and putting up with our funky phone connections!

Workshop: Almost Alone with David Williams | ZumaPhoto

Monday, September 14th, 2009

signature Workshop: Almost Alone with David Williams | ZumaPhotoUPDATE: Due to the proximity of Thanksgiving, it was decided that the seminar is being postponed until sometime next year.  We’ll keep you posted when we know more.

About four years ago I attended a seminar in Los Angeles by famed Australian photographer David A. Williams. I’ve attended many seminars and I find something useful in all of them – but David’s message was the only one that I can honestly say left me….moved. There are many gifted photographers out there who can show you a new way to see images, help you redefine what to shoot, teach you how to wrangle the most from your equipment, or offer priceless information on how to reach your ideal client. But David speaks to something altogether different, and arguably more important: why we shoot. David shoots from the heart. And he will inspire you to do the same.

I am honored to be co-hosting David in his new 3-day seminar presentation along with the inimitable Pepper Nix of Pepper Nix Photography and Heidi & Tim Uhl of Retrospect. The seminar runs from November 23-25, 2009 at the ZumaPhoto studio in Salt Lake City, UT. You really owe it to yourself to attend.
