We took Leah and Dean’s Groomal portraits at the Utah state capitol and at the Salt Lake City library. It was a gorgeous spring morning and Leah was just stunning in her bridal gown from Alta Moda. As we were shooting at the capitol, a tour bus full of Japanese tourists stopped and came in for a tour of the historic building. The moment Leah stepped into the spotlight beaming down from the rotunda, every tourist’s camera was lifted up and 50 flashes began twinkling as they all snapped some shots of the beautiful bride on the marble stairs. It was a pretty funny moment for all of us. Thanks Dean and Leah! You two are so so great!

Downtown Salt Lake City Engagements | Leah + Dean | ZumaPhoto
Friday, June 4th, 2010
Here are a few of my favorites from Leah and Dean’s engagement session we had downtown Salt Lake City. Their wedding reception will be held in a renovated warehouse type building in Evanston Wyoming, so the urban landscape of downtown was perfect for their engagements. Thanks Leah and Dean! I hada great time and I can’t wait for the Bridals and the Wedding day!

Bonneville Salt Flats Groomals | Christina + Roger part l | ZumaPhoto
Monday, May 31st, 2010
I have been so so excited to post this groomal session. Ever since I met with Christina and Roger last fall, I have been looking forward to this session. Together, we came up with some really great ideas, including fire-lit chinese paper lanterns that would be released floating into the sunset. Well the wind was so so strong that the paper didn’t survive even being opened up. I really wanted to do the lanterns so we have since had another shoot specifically for the lanterns. So check back to see those soon!
Even though the lanterns didn’t quite work, Roger and Christina had some other props that were so fun and striking. And they brought their fantastic four-legged friend Peanut! He was so excited to run and run and run. He was a challenge to photograph but I love what I got!
Sometimes I like to do jumping shots if the couple is into it. Roger’s family has a history of jumping family portraits, so we made sure to have fun with the whole idea.
We also spent some time near Capitol Hill and downtown Salt Lake City. I love the contrast of the city with the nothingness of the salt flats. I would have to say this Session falls within my top 5 Groomal sessions. Thank you so much Christina and Roger! I am so excited for your wedding and all of the great plans you have for the big day!

La Caille Groomal Portraits | Michelle + Aaron | ZumaPhoto
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010
I had such a lovely groomal session with Michelle and Aaron. With all of this wet weather we have had the past couple months, we were lucky to have a one day window of gorgeous weather between two big storms. At least all this moisture makes everything green and lush and healthy. La Caille was the perfect setting for Michelle and Aaron’s groomals, it was exactly what they were looking for. The two are such a handsome couple, don’t you think? Every time Michelle looked at Aaron, her whole face just lit up. I really didn’t need to give them much direction for the portraits, as long as they held onto each other, they both just glowed and were so comfortable in each other’s arms. Thanks you two! I had a blast and I am so so pleased with the photos we got. And thanks Stacy for assisting me! You are a terrific reflector holder!

Cucina Nassi Wedding | Julianne + Weston | ZumaPhoto
Wednesday, May 19th, 2010
This wedding’s blog post is way over due. I’m sorry to everybody who has anxiously been waiting to see the reception of Julianne and Weston. They were married at the Salt Lake Temple and held their wedding reception at Cucina Nassi, the new Italian style banquet hall run by Walter Nassi, operator of Cucina Toscana in downtown Salt Lake City. It is such a luxurious hall without being over the top or cheesy. Colby from C3 design and Sean from Sax Romney floral design created an amazing setting for Julianne and Weston to enjoy a hundred different appetizers, what seemed to be a 20 course sit down dinner, and a decadent dessert buffet. It was a beautiful relaxing evening with Julianne and Weston’s friends, family and food… what more could you ask for? Thank you Julianne and Weston for inviting me to share your special wedding day. I had so much fun with you two on the engagement and bridal sessions and your wedding day was just glorious. L, Logan

Salt Lake City Temple | Julianne + Weston | ZumaPhoto
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
These two lovebirds were married back in February. We were crossing our fingers for a snowstorm on her wedding day (Julianne really wanted snow) but there was no snow around. Still, it was a gorgeous day for a winter wedding. And the lovely weather allowed us to spend more time outside around temple square. Here are some of my favorites from the first half of their day. Stay tuned for the the images from their reception!

Ultimate Utah Wedding | The Tower at Rice Eccles | Nick + Whitnee
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
The Wedding Reception for Nick and Whitnee’s Ultimate Utah Wedding was just spectacular. All of the generous vendors who came together for this event gave 110%. As the sun set on the city, the view of downtown Salt Lake and the Great Salt Lake was a beautiful treat for Nick and Whitnee’s guests to take in. The Tower is one of the only places in the Salt Lake Valley where such a view can be enjoyed. Guests were served a number of mouth watering hors d’oeuvres, delightful gelato, and refreshing signature mocktails, compliments of Culinary Crafts. Scene Makers set the stage with an illuminated dance floor, red, black and white lounge furniture and gorgeous seasonal red floral designs. I loved the wintery trees and white floral balls dangling from the backdrop behind the head table. Nick and Whitnee’s red, black and white wedding cake was provided by Ambrosia. Durvin from Laughing Gravy kept the evening rolling from the reception line into the traditions of cake cutting, first dance, and the bouquet and garter toss. The party was really going when Swoop, the University of Utah Mascott dropped by for a little performance. Nick and Whitnee were surrounded by friends and family as they danced into the night. When it came time for the two to depart, they were driven away into the night in a handsome vintage Rolls Royce provided by Something Vintage, Something Blue.
Ryan and I had so much fun working with Nick and Whitnee. We would like to thank them and all of the people who voted for ZumaPhoto to be part of their Ultimate Utah Wedding. Nick and Whitnee, you two are Rock Stars!

Ultimate Utah Wedding | Salt Lake City Temple | Nick + Whitnee
Friday, March 5th, 2010
Nick and Whitnee, the couple chosen for the Ultimate Utah Wedding giveaway are finally married! It was a gorgeous February day with the warm sun peeking through the cool clouds. Nick and Whitnee were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple surrounded by family and loved ones. The couple was just glowing as they exited the temple to be greeted by everyone who came down for the ceremony. After taking the standard family and group portraits on the stairs of the temple, Ryan and I were able to take the two around the temple grounds for some personal time and some personal photos. They were so excited to be married, they couldn’t stop looking at each other. Just so, so, so cute! Whitnee’s exquisite gown is a Maggie Soterro original and her lovely boquet was created by Scene Makers. Nick’s Tux comes from Jim’s Formal Wear. When we were finished with photos, Nick and Whitnee were whisked away in a vintage Rolls Royce provided by Something Vintage Something Blue.
Here are the images from the first half of the day at the Temple. Check back soon for the reception images at The Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah.

Ultimate Utah Wedding | Horseback Groomal Session | ZumaPhoto
Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Today is Whitnee and Nick’s big day! Their Ultimate Utah Wedding will be taking place first with a ceremony at the Salt Lake City Temple in the daytime and then their reception will be tonight at The Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium. Ryan and I will be with them all day and I am so excited to see how all of the chosen vendors will come together to create Nick and Whitnee’s dream wedding!
We did their groomal session a couple weeks ago and I have been so excited to post these shots, but I had to wait until today. We spent part of the day out at a riding stable in Bluffdale where Whitnee was able to ride the horse of her choice. It was awfully chilly but I think it was worth it. We got some shots both serene and hilarious! The rest of the time was spent downtown Salt Lake City indoors at the Rio Grande train station where the two were able to warm up and really relax with the camera. These two really are a fun, loving, photogenic, and sexy couple. Thanks N & W! You two rock!
Check back soon to see the photos from their Ultimate Utah Wedding!

Utah State Capitol Groomal Session | Julianne & Weston | ZumaPhoto
Friday, February 5th, 2010
I had the hardest time picking out only a “few” of my favorites from Julianne and Weston’s groomal session. Julianne was so beautiful in her custom gown from Alta Moda bridal. And her bouquet from Sax Romney was so unique and fit Julianne’s tastes perfectly. While we were at the Capitol, two different women who worked there approached Julianne to tell her that of all the lovely brides who come to the Capitol to have their portraits taken, she was the most stunning of them all, and they see a lot of brides come through. I just love knowing I have the most gorgeous bride of all! Julianne has so much attention to detail and has such style. Weston wasn’t too shabby either. What a handsome couple! Thanks you tow! L, Logan
The two were married just yesterday and are now off to warm sunny beaches for their honeymoon. It was a beautiful wedding on a lovely February day. Visit our blog again to see their wedding-day blog post, coming soon!

Winter Engagements | Julianne + Weston | ZumaPhoto
Friday, January 29th, 2010
Julianne and Weston will be getting married in Salt Lake City Temple this February. So we have been venturing out into the crisp cold weather for their engagement and groomal sessions. We had such a great engagement shoot on this chilly winter day. Even in January, Utah can be such a beautiful setting for a handsome couple to take their portraits.
We started at the base of the little cottonwood canyon on the grounds of La Caille. It was an unplanned stop on our way up the canyon, so I want to thank the ladies at La Caille for letting us stop by for a few shots. We sensed a storm rolling in so we hurried up the canyon’s winding road trying to beat the snowfall. It worked for a little while. We were able to play with Tahoe, Julianne’s gorgeous golden retriever. He had so much fun romping in the snow. He liked to jump in the air and catch snowballs in his mouth! Then heading up even further, the snow really began to blow! I just love how the snowflakes look frozen in motion against their dark coats. As cold as it was, the photos are so worth it! When the cold was just too much to bare anymore, we headed back down to the valley to find someplace where the snow wasn’t quickly falling. We ended up in our studio neighborhood, Sugar House where we had a fun time with a big red chair in a cool alley.
Thanks Julianne and Weston! I loved how these turned out! And your wedding is next week! Can’t wait! L, Logan

Downtown SLC Bridals | Jessi
Friday, October 16th, 2009
I had such a blast with Jessi for her bridals. She may be little but she has quite the spunky personality! Jessi was game for anything I asked her to do and we went all over downtown. I loved these bridals so much I have had a hard time picking only a few for this blog. I guess I wasn’t very successful at narrowing it down. We just such a variety of wonderful shots!
This time of year as the green life of nature begins to die off, I seem to give more attention to the concrete jungle of Salt Lake. Urban architecture is a fabulous option for locations and Salt Lake has such a variety from elegant pillars and stairways to grungy alleyways. A bonus is that we don’t need to travel too far use a variety of backgrounds! The bride (and groom) can be framed so elegantly and simple within a doorframe. Thanks Jessi for being such a gorgeous bride willing to try anything! L, Logan

Irving Penn 1917-2009 | Thank You
Friday, October 9th, 2009
Wednesday the world lost one of the centuries most prolific and influential photographers. Irving Penn’s signature blend of classical elegance and cool minimalism was recognizable to magazine readers and museumgoers worldwide. His contribution to the worlds of art and fashion are priceless. He has certainly inspired my photography over the years. His portraits are simple and clean, yet reveal a deep emotion and history. His still lifes of food and mundane objects show sculptured balances of shape, color and texture. Mr. Penn has left a thumbprint in my fascination and love for photography. His work will be remembered for centuries. To read more about Mr. Penn, you can read his obituary from the New York Times. “Photographing a cake can be art”

Tiff & Zach’s Wyoming Wedding | ZumaPhoto
Friday, October 2nd, 2009
I have been so excited to post Tiffanee and Zach’s wedding photos. On family property set at the base of the Teton Mountians, the two were married in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The day was gorgeous despite a huge rainstorm that rumbled through for a couple hours. The love of friends and family was way too strong to let the rain clouds dampen the day. I am so grateful to Tiffanee and Zach for having me all the way up to Jackson for their big day. Thank you two!

Tiffanee & Zach's Engagements | ZumaPhoto
Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
Zach and Tiffanee are serious bicycle enthusiasts. So serious in fact that they peddled their road bikes across the entire state of Iowa! This will explain all of the bike shots. We had so much fun on this shoot. I got a good workout running alongside the two of them as they road up and down city creek canyon. I love mixing it up with some action and playful fun and these two were a blast!
After the bicycle shoot we went up to Red Butte Gardens for a little different type of nature. The flowers and plants and trees offer so much color and texture. It was perfect for a natural shoot with some formal elements. Thank you Tiffanee and Zach! I can’t wait to post your wedding photos!!!

Tara & Jared’s Wedding La Caille | ZumaPhoto
Saturday, September 5th, 2009
La Caille is such a beautiful location for a wedding celebration and I think it fit Tara and Jared’s style perfectly. The storm continued the rest of the day but again, the clouds and rain seemed to dissipate just long enough for us to get some great shots. The pavillion at La Caille is another great option for an indoor wedding with an outdoor feel. It really brings the outdoors – in.
Tara and Jared had such wonderful attitudes about the weather. I love it when couple just go with the flow. We can’t change the weather so we may as well accept it and work with it. This goes for the overall wedding day and in my case for the photography. I really try to encourage couples to not be afraid of the rain. It makes everything wet and shiny and glowy and gorgeous! If we can all brave the weather, I promise the photos will be worth it! We actually only had a few drops fall on us during our time at the temple and at la caille, but they were braving it with the chance that the weather could get worse.

Tara & Jared's Wedding SLC Temple | ZumaPhoto
Friday, September 4th, 2009
It was really stormy on Jared and Tara’s wedding day, but the clouds always seemed to part at the right times just enough to give us some gorgeous light. They held the rain for us too! Thank you Utah weather! Tara and Jared were so excited to be married and just so tender with each other. Jared just couldn’t take his eyes off his lovely bride.

Tara's Bridals | ZumaPhoto
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009
Tara was so photogenic in her engagements; a real knock-out! I just couldn’t wait to do her bridals. When she arrived to the Capitol Building, she nearly took my breath away. I can’t imagine how Jared will reacted when he saw his bride for the first time. Tara was such an elegant bride and seemed so calm and comfortable for our shoot. Her look is absolutley timeless. Some of the photographs we got could have been taken fifty years ago.
The ladies at Alta Moda helped her find her perfect dress, a gorgeous Anne Barge. I think it is so wonderful that designers and the talented crew at Alta Moda can create such beautiful alterations to dresses in order for them to be temple ready. You wouldn’t even know that the cute little bolero wasn’t an original piece of the dress.
Also contributing to Tara’s look were the fine ladies of Enizio. They did her hair and makeup for both her bridals and her wedding day. They are so skilled at creating fresh and clean looks and styles that are dramatic but never over the top. They nail it every time! Good work girls!
Tara, you were an Angel to photograph. Thank you so much for making my job so easy!

Tara & Jared’s Engagements | ZumaPhoto
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
I am so excited to post Tara and Jared’s wedding images, but I had better start at the beginning right? Living in Texas, the couple met in dental school which would explain both of their gleaming pearly white smiles. They chose Salt Lake City as a wonderful midpoint between the two families to celebrate a destination wedding. Tara’s family is from Texas and Jared’s is from Idaho.

Wedding at Market Street Grill | ZumaPhoto
Friday, August 21st, 2009
Set at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon, the Market Street Grill was a perfect location for Whitney and Brendon to share their wedding celebrations with friends and family. It was a great choice for an indoor/outdoor wedding. The upper deck has these big doors that open up and allows guests to flow easily from the inside out onto the deck. It almost seems like one big room, only half of it doesn’t have a roof! Thank you so much Whitney and Brendon for sharing your day with me! Cheers! Logan
