Ultimate Utah Wedding | Salt Lake City Temple | Nick + Whitnee

March 5th, 2010 by Logan

salt-lake-temple-wedding-ultimate-utah-wedding--W-0195biga.jpgNick and Whitnee, the couple chosen for the Ultimate Utah Wedding giveaway are finally married! It was a gorgeous February day with the warm sun peeking through the cool clouds. Nick and Whitnee were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple surrounded by family and loved ones. The couple was just glowing as they exited the temple to be greeted by everyone who came down for the ceremony. After taking the standard family and group portraits on the stairs of the temple, Ryan and I were able to take the two around the temple grounds for some personal time and some personal photos. They were so excited to be married, they couldn’t stop looking at each other. Just so, so, so cute! Whitnee’s exquisite gown is a Maggie Soterro original and her lovely boquet was created by Scene Makers. Nick’s Tux comes from Jim’s Formal Wear. When we were finished with photos, Nick and Whitnee were whisked away in a vintage Rolls Royce provided by Something Vintage Something Blue.

Here are the images from the first half of the day at the Temple. Check back soon for the reception images at The Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah.

Sundance Winter Wedding Album | McCall & Ryan

March 2nd, 2010 by Mitch

sundance_wedding_thumb.jpg Well since we’re stuck here in winter for a few more weeks we might as well celebrate it. I can’t think of a better way than to share this gorgeous album from McCall & Ryan’s December sealing the Salt Lake Temple that culminated in a stunning winter reception at Sundance Resort!

McCall had a lot of images to pare it down from: we did an engagement session, a bridal AND groomal session, the temple sealing and the reception. The only thing to do was go BIG! So here we have a 12×16 inch, 100-side beauty dolled up in McCall’s own inspired combination of gold ostrich and copper metallic leathers. As beautiful as it looks here, this album really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Its positively decadent! :D

2002 Olympic Hockey | ZumaPhoto

March 2nd, 2010 by Ryan

2002 hockey 2002 Olympic Hockey | ZumaPhoto After watching the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games, I had to go through my archive and post some of my photographs from the 2002 games in Salt Lake City. These photos are from the USA vs Russia Game, which happened to be played on the 22nd anniversary of the 1980 Miracle on Ice. I have photographed countless hockey games, and in my opinion this game was the second greatest game ever, the first being the original game between the two countries in 1980.

These are photos from the dress rehearsal, but the tragic love story opens tonight at Utah’s Capitol Theatre. Be sure to get you tickets (YOU should take your sweetheart, just sayin’). Ultimate Utah Wedding | Horseback Groomal Session | ZumaPhoto

February 11th, 2010 by Logan

downtown salt lake city bridal portraits 0370crop Ultimate Utah Wedding | Horseback Groomal Session | ZumaPhoto Today is Whitnee and Nick’s big day! Their Ultimate Utah Wedding will be taking place first with a ceremony at the Salt Lake City Temple in the daytime and then their reception will be tonight at The Tower at Rice Eccles Stadium. Ryan and I will be with them all day and I am so excited to see how all of the chosen vendors will come together to create Nick and Whitnee’s dream wedding!

We did their groomal session a couple weeks ago and I have been so excited to post these shots, but I had to wait until today. We spent part of the day out at a riding stable in Bluffdale where Whitnee was able to ride the horse of her choice. It was awfully chilly but I think it was worth it. We got some shots both serene and hilarious! The rest of the time was spent downtown Salt Lake City indoors at the Rio Grande train station where the two were able to warm up and really relax with the camera. These two really are a fun, loving, photogenic, and sexy couple. Thanks N & W! You two rock!

Check back soon to see the photos from their Ultimate Utah Wedding!

Utah State Capitol Groomal Session | Julianne & Weston | ZumaPhoto

February 5th, 2010 by Logan

utah state capitol bridal portraits 213 Utah State Capitol Groomal Session | Julianne & Weston | ZumaPhotoI had the hardest time picking out only a “few” of my favorites from Julianne and Weston’s groomal session. Julianne was so beautiful in her custom gown from Alta Moda bridal. And her bouquet from Sax Romney was so unique and fit Julianne’s tastes perfectly. While we were at the Capitol, two different women who worked there approached Julianne to tell her that of all the lovely brides who come to the Capitol to have their portraits taken, she was the most stunning of them all, and they see a lot of brides come through. I just love knowing I have the most gorgeous bride of all! Julianne has so much attention to detail and has such style. Weston wasn’t too shabby either. What a handsome couple! Thanks you tow! L, Logan

The two were married just yesterday and are now off to warm sunny beaches for their honeymoon. It was a beautiful wedding on a lovely February day. Visit our blog again to see their wedding-day blog post, coming soon!

Winter Engagement | Pete and Mandy | ZumaPhoto

February 3rd, 2010 by Ryan

thumb103 Winter Engagement | Pete and Mandy | ZumaPhoto

Here are a few favorite photos from Mandy and Pete’s winter engagement session. I must say, the morning we took these photos it was frigid, but the sunshine did provide some warmth (and really awesome shadows). We roamed downtown Salt Lake looking for cool (pun intended) spots to take photographs and found all sorts of great places including a purple wall that matches their wedding colors, yay us!

I’m glad they were willing to brave the weather, it made for great photos!

Winter Engagements | Julianne + Weston | ZumaPhoto

January 29th, 2010 by Logan

utah-wedding-photographer-engagement-portraits-0326.jpgJulianne and Weston will be getting married in Salt Lake City Temple this February. So we have been venturing out into the crisp cold weather for their engagement and groomal sessions. We had such a great engagement shoot on this chilly winter day. Even in January, Utah can be such a beautiful setting for a handsome couple to take their portraits.

We started at the base of the little cottonwood canyon on the grounds of La Caille. It was an unplanned stop on our way up the canyon, so I want to thank the ladies at La Caille for letting us stop by for a few shots. We sensed a storm rolling in so we hurried up the canyon’s winding road trying to beat the snowfall. It worked for a little while. We were able to play with Tahoe, Julianne’s gorgeous golden retriever. He had so much fun romping in the snow. He liked to jump in the air and catch snowballs in his mouth! Then heading up even further, the snow really began to blow! I just love how the snowflakes look frozen in motion against their dark coats. As cold as it was, the photos are so worth it! When the cold was just too much to bare anymore, we headed back down to the valley to find someplace where the snow wasn’t quickly falling. We ended up in our studio neighborhood, Sugar House where we had a fun time with a big red chair in a cool alley.

Thanks Julianne and Weston! I loved how these turned out! And your wedding is next week! Can’t wait! L, Logan

It always makes for great photos when a bride and groom are willing to brave the cold and get on a horse in wedding attire - thanks guys!

Here are a few of my favorite photographs.

NEW Off-Season Pricing! | ZumaPhoto

January 19th, 2010 by Mitch

utah_wedding_photography_thumb.png So far 2010 is turning out to be ZumaPhoto’s best year ever! We have been booking our summer and fall dates earlier and faster than we ever have before and we are stoked to be working with clients that have so much great energy!

As always though, Spring is the rather slow stepchild of our year….

Its not really something that photographers talk about much, but the truth is that wedding photography is highly seasonal, with the great majority of events taking place in the summer, autumn and winter months, and only a paltry few landing in spring. Well we decided to address that issue straight up and we think that we’re the first studio to do so.

Taking a cue from the many world-class ski resorts in the area, we thought that we’d hold a little experiment in market-demand pricing. We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of off-season pricing on local events that take place between

February 1 - May 15th, 2010

This limited time, special pricing that represents extraordinary savings over our standard rates. What’s more, both the full-day AND half-day packages come with the option to take the full-resolution files at no additional cost!

La Caille Wedding Album | Maggie & Ben | ZumaPhoto

January 12th, 2010 by Mitch

la_caille_wedding_album_utah_001.jpg Its been a while since we shared an album, but you can expect many more coming up because we produced more albums in this past year than we ever have before! Today’s star is this gorgeous 100-side, copper metallic leather and pink suede jaw-dropper that we produced for Maggie & Ben.

Maggie & Ben were married one beautiful sunny June day at the world famous La Caille, and we took a little extra time in designing the album to make sure that it really captured the love and emotion that were palpable to everyone there.

Please to enjoy!

New Print Ad Released - ‘Gracie’ | ZumaPhoto

January 5th, 2010 by Mitch

utah_wedding_photographer_ad_thumb.jpg

This year, we decided to do an ad in Utah Bride & Groom. It features neither bride nor groom, shows no wedding decor, no stunning vista, makes no claims to our prowess, and doesn’t really even demonstrate much by way of its own design. And while it does contain a young couple, they are distinctly relegated to the background in support of the real star…a big playful, slobbery dog named Gracie.

What up with that?

January 3rd, 2010 by Mitch

johnson_mill_thumb.jpg We are again honored to have a six-page feature in the hot-off-the-presses 2010 edition of Utah Bride & Groom Magazine !

This time around its Kim and Sean’s spectacular Fourth o’ July a-hitchin’ at Johnson Mill. Kym wore an Atelier Aimee gown from Alta Moda Bridal with a very cool handmade purse by Leigh-Ann Kline. Flowers were by Basket of Gold, music was by Kim’s son Adrian’s band (they rocked it), and the fireworks were provided courtesy of the Heber City Chamber of Commerce (though admittedly they probably had another occasion in mind…).

Go get your copy of Utah Bride & Groom, wherever better local bridal magazines are sold.  ;)

What says summer better than a wedding at a Moab winery? Marshall and Ashley had the perfect weather for an amazing wedding at Red Cliffs Resort Winery. The resort is located on the banks of the Colorado River surrounded by red rock cliffs - truly spectacular.

Location aside, Marshall and Ashley were great fun and I’m happy I was able to photograph their big day.

Holiday Music from ZumaPhoto to You | ZumaPhoto

December 7th, 2009 by Mitch

live_thumb.jpgWhen I was a child my father had a 4+ hour reel-to-reel mix of Christmas music that he would bring out every December and that labor of love became an integral part of my holiday memories. About 5 years ago I began to gather all of the songs on my father’s original collection and have been adding my own selections to that core group ever since. Today we have nearly 1200 songs in nearly every genre and period, including timeless classics, contemporary updates, irreverent satire, and the just plain strange…. ZumaPhoto would like to share it with you as our way of saying thanks, and of course Happy Holidays!

This is a tradition that I wish to pass on to my own children, and so I have named the stream after my son Zen. So far, he isn’t really showing what I consider to be appropriate appreciation, but then he’s not yet 2.

And so without further ado, we offer for your listening pleasure Zen’s Christmas Toybox.

UPDATED: We’ve been picked up by Utah Bride & Groom!
Kelly & Mitch came in from Michigan to do a Groomal session before the snow started to fly. We decided to prowl the amazing Salt Lake City Main Public Library, one of the most significant architectural spaces in Utah. Its won dozens of awards etc, but I like it because it affords a great variety of light and mood, from modern cool to sunny warmth, all within one block. If you haven’t ever been inside you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Congratulations, Kelly & Mitch. You guys were great!

All New ZumaPhoto Website | ZumaPhoto

Picture 17thumb.png ZumaPhoto has an ALL NEW, totally redesigned website, and guess what? YOU’RE ON IT!! (unless you’re reading this through an RSS feed, Facebook, etc., in which case, click the link and come visit us!). And while you’re here, why not go vote for us in The Ultimate Utah Wedding giveaway! Its tax-deductible!

The site that we’ve had up until this point was literally put together in one day and we’ve not done much to it in two years. We’ve had compliments about it, but the truth is that it looked and acted much like everyone else’s - such is the weakness of Flash template sites. I’ve had something very particular in mind for many many months now, but because of our hectic schedule its taken quite a while to get all the details together. We still have a number of things waiting in the wings, but Its finally ready to unveil! I havn’t seen anything quite like this done by another photography studio, and its our hope that this is going to increase our ability to actively communicate with our clients and fans. Thanks for looking!
